The Nunavik Regional Department of General Medicine (RDGM) is the body consisting of all the general practitioners of the region. It currently consists of 38 physicians.
Mandate
In accordance with section 417.2 of the Act respecting health services and social services, (S-4.2) and the powers granted to the regional board and in compliance with the responsibilities of the institutions on the Regional board’s territory, the Regional Department of General Medicine assumes the following responsibilities under the authority of the executive director:
formulate recommendations on the portion of the regional medical staffing plan relative to general practitioners which must be established according to section 377 and, once the Minister has approved the plan, ensure implementation and application of the regional board’s decision relative to that plan;
define and propose the regional organization plan for the provision of general medical services which must specify, by territory of each local health and social services network, the services provided in private clinics, local community service centres or outpatient clinics of hospital centres operated by an institution, the nature of existing and expected services in terms of accessibility and capacity to handle various types of patients, and ensure implementation and application of the regional board’s decision relative to that plan;
define and propose a network for access to general medical care that could include the integrated duty roster, notably by means of service, pairing or sponsorship agreements between institutions, and an on-call duty roster for services provided in residential and long-term care centres and under the home-care program and ensure implementation and coordination of the regional board’s decision concerning the system, the whole within the framework of the regional organization plan for general medical services;
formulate recommendations on the nature of the general medical services arising from programs taking priority and ensure implementation of the regional board’s decision relative to this matter;
formulate recommendations on the list of specific medical activities mentioned in section 361 and ensure implementation of the regional board’s decision relative to that list;
evaluate the degree to which the objectives relative to the regional organization plan for general medical services and the portion of the regional medical staffing plan relative to general practitioners have been attained;
provide an opinion on any project concerning the provision of general medical services:
7.1 provide an opinion on certain projects relative to the use of medication;
7.2 provide an opinion on the implementation of service corridors proposed by the integrated university health network;assume any other function assigned by the regional board’s executive director relative to general medical services.
Composition
In accordance with section 417.3 of the Act respecting health services and social services, (S-4.2), the responsibilities of the Regional Department of General Medicine are assumed by a steering committee consisting of the following members:
three physicians elected by and from among the physicians who are members of the department;
two to nine physicians who are members of the department, appointed by the members described in paragraph 1 in accordance with the number defined in section 417.4;
the Regional board’s executive director or the physician he or she designates for that purpose.

2015 and 2016 Regional Medical Staffing Plan (RMSP) for Family Medicine
All positions on the 2016 RMSP (December 1, 2015, to November 30, 2016) are presently filled.
The number of positions available for 2017 (December 1, 2016, to November 30, 2017) will be known at the end of September or beginning of October.

To obtain a notice of compliance
For physicians who wish to start their practice on December 1, 2016, it will be possible to apply for positions on the 2017 RMMP starting October 15, 2016.
The initial period for reception of applications for a notice of compliance (nomination period) is from October 15 to November 15, 2016.
Thus, a candidate seriously considering setting up practice in Nunavik must send to the head of the regional board’s RDGM, by e-mail, a notice of compliance1 duly completed and signed (sections 1, 2, 3 and 4). The candidate is invited to enclose his or her résumé as well as a letter of introduction with the application for a notice of compliance.
