The Nunavik NIHB Program covers prescription drugs and certain over-the-counter medications available in pharmacies and administered in the home or other ambulatory setting.
The beneficiary or his/her guardian must present to the pharmacist the beneficiary card and a prescription issued by a physician or other health professional authorized under provincial law.
Important:
- Whether or not, you have an “n” number, it is recommended to ask your pharmacists to contact NIHB Nunavik in order to verify your eligibility and obtain an authorization indicating the applicable reimbursement after validation of the beneficiary's eligibility.
- A medication is covered if it appears on the RAMQ list or the NIHB list from Indigenous Services Canada (express-scripts.ca), following standard eligibility criteria while prioritizing the most advantageous option between the two lists. Prior authorizations should be requested from the program associated with the applicable list.
- If a personalized form is unavailable, the RAMQ form must be completed and sent — not to RAMQ, but to the NIHB-NUNAVIK program at ssna.rrsssn@ssss.gouv.qc.ca — for restricted-use medications, exceptional medications, and medications not listed.
- If the beneficiary does not have a beneficiary number (5-digit number), they must pay out of pocket and submit a claim directly to the NIHB program. If the request has already been partially reimbursed by another private or public insurance plan, only the unpaid balance can be claimed. The NIHB program is considered the last payer.
- The following criteria apply:
- No deductible
- 100% of medication costs are covered
No fees are charged to the beneficiary
- For billing purposes, please send invoices to ssna.rrsssn@ssss.gouv.qc.ca.
- Please also submit a void cheque so we can add your banking information to the file.
