    Understanding mistreatment

    Mistreatment of elders and vulnerable adults is a major concern, often hidden and which people have difficulty talking about. This behaviour, which happens in countless places, including Nunavik, can entail physical, emotional, financial and verbal abuse as well as neglect.

    To stop this abuse, we must:

    • learn to recognize the signs of mistreatment;
    • talk about the behaviour;
    • report our concerns when we observe something that doesn’t feel right.

We encourage you to unlock the power of knowledge with the Elder Abuse Awareness Tool developed by the NRBHSS. This culturally sensitive document is an essential guide for recognizing the signs of 7 types of elder abuse. Take a moment to explore it and discover how it can empower us to identify signs of elder abuse and take action to help protect our most vulnerable community members.

  • Elder Wellness Comic Strip
    Promoting wellness and respect

    The Elder Wellness comic strip was created to raise awareness about the well-being of elders by presenting everyday situations that showcase respect, dignity and the prevention of mistreatment. By using a visual storytelling approach, this tool makes important messages accessible to everyone, encouraging reflection and positive action within our communities.

    Let’s support the wellness of Elders and adults in vulnerable situations by:

    • listening to their thoughts and concerns;
    • responding to their real needs and not only what we think they need;
    • supporting their ability to make choices and take action;
    • respecting their right to privacy and independence;
    • helping them feel included and socially connected.
