Nunavik Elder Safety Day

A Commitment to Protecting Our Elders

The safety of elders is central to our communities and a shared responsibility rooted in cultural tradition.

Launched in 2024 as part of the NRBHSS Action Plan for Elder Safety, the Nunavik Elder Safety Day campaign focuses on prevention, detection, and intervention while raising awareness, educating the community, and empowering individuals to protect elders' dignity.

Given its success, the campaign will now be held annually on June 15. The NRBHSS is committed to working with communities to build on these achievements, ensuring elder safety remains a priority and strengthening the bonds that highlight the vital role of elders in our lives.

Key Elements of the Campaign

  1. Facebook campaign:
A month-long campaign featuring daily content and engagement activities.
  2. TNI radio adverts:
The campaign was promoted on TNI to allow us to amplify our message and reach a wider audience.
  3. Nunavik-Wide Call for projects:
Shared with community elder coordinators, inviting them to organize activities to highlight Nunavik Elder Safety Day. The community’s response was overwhelmingly positive, with numerous acts of kindness shared on social media, and a significant number of community-led initiatives took place in various villages.

Looking Ahead: Nunavik Elder Safety Day 2025

As we plan for the next Elder Safety Day in 2025, we invite all community members to stay engaged, share ideas, and participate in making Nunavik a safer place for our elders. Together, we can build a community where elders are cherished, protected, and treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.
