National Elders Day 2026

Celebrating and Supporting Elders Across Nunavik

The National Elders Day Campaign, led by the NRBHSS, returns for its third consecutive year from September 28 to October 2, 2026

Organized in collaboration with local organizations, Elders Coordinators, wellness workers, schools, and community partners, the campaign celebrates the important role Elders play in Nunavik communities while promoting their well-being, dignity, safety, and inclusion.

National Elders Day, observed on October 1, is an opportunity to recognize the knowledge, experience, language, culture, and traditions that Elders continue to share with families and communities across Nunavik.

How Can We Celebrate an Elder?

Everyone can contribute to Elder well-being through simple acts of kindness and respect.

  • Visit an Elder.
  • Share a meal together.
  • Listen to their stories and experiences.
  • Ask how they are doing.
  • Let them know they are appreciated.

Small moments of connection can make a meaningful difference.

Nakurmiik to all the Elders who continue to guide, inspire, and strengthen Nunavik communities.
