JOIN US FOR THE 2025 ELDERS DAY CAMPAIGN!

Celebrating and supporting elders across Nunavik

The Nunavik Elders Day Campaign, led by the NRBHSS in partnership with local organizations, wellness workers, elder coordinators and schools is deployed every October to honor elders, promote their safety and well-being, and strengthen intergenerational connections.

Campaign Goals

  • Highlight the important role of elders Nunavik communities
  • Celebrate elders’ contributions to culture, knowledge, and community.
  • Provide tools and resources to support elder safety.
  • Raise awareness about resources and services available to report mistreatment
  • Foster intergenerational bonds

2025 Activities

  • Press Release: Launching the campaign and sharing key initiatives.
  • Facebook Campaign: Including posts on topics such as: Elder Resources, intergenerational workshops, elder rights, and cultural highlights.
  • Safety Contact Notepads, Cards and reflective arm bands: Distributed to elders in the communities through local partners. 
  • Elder Wellness Newsletter – 2nd Edition: Sharing regional update and practical tips for elder wellness.
  • KI Pilot Project – “A Day in the Life of an Elder”: School workshops simulating aging challenges to build empathy and understanding.

Nunavik Elders Day Campaign 2024: A Celebration of Wisdom and Heritage in Nunavik

2024 Campaign Highlights 

  • Nunavik-wide call for projects: Nunavimmiut were invited to submit proposals for community events celebrating our elders, such as storytelling or cultural performances. The NRBHSS will provide funding and promotional support to approved projects.
  • Mistreatment prevention training: A pilot project offering training to caregivers on the prevention of elder mistreatment and the promotion of elder wellness.
  • Facebook campaign: A month-long campaign featuring daily content and engagement activities.
  • Radio ads: Campaign ads featured on FM and CBC Radio One North.
  • Nunavik Elders Day community challenge: The NRBHSS encouraged Nunavimmiut to join the  challenge by participating in activities with elders in their community during the month of October 2024 to win awesome prizes.
  • Elders Day video: The video “A Lifetime of Wisdom” was prepared, featuring elders’ stories and messages from spokespersons Minnie Grey and Charlie Watt.
